Before Phil 4:8, which tells us to keep our minds centered on pure and excellent truth, which is ONLY JESUS comes verse 7. It’s a great verse.
“And God’s peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Amplified Bible
We have tranquil peace knowing we are saved. We fear nothing (no wrath) from God while also having true fear of the Lord which absolutely sees Him as GOD and we are NOT and we will tremble in His Presence. We are content here on earth while living in it but not being of it.
Garrison refers to a permanent military installation where the troops are stationed. Because we belong to Him, God’s peace is a permanent fixture over our hearts and minds. That means when we allow our minds to go flooey with anxiety filled thoughts and then pursue THEM we make a bad choice. God’s peace is still there. We simply repent, turn around and return to Him. We say, out loud, something like this.
“God, Your Word says that Your peace transcends all my understanding and it is a permanent fixture over my heart and mind. I return there right now. Thank You that You never change and Your Word is absolute truth. This circumstance will not shake me out of Your peace. My heart and mind lean into and remain in You, the Prince of Peace.”
