Military Order and Firmness
Published on: July 13, 2023
Last night I felt drawn to watch Sniper, a true movie about a Navy Seal who was an expert shot and protected his comrades from death many times.
I was fascinated by the training these men go through. It showed them linking arms covered in mud and sand as freezing ocean waters pounded them time and again. When yelled at by their superiors the seals just held on inside and to each other and said “Hoo-Yah sir!” This hit me at a deeper level than when I saw it before.
I prayed in such gratitude, seeing the manifold wisdom and diversity of God! King David trained his men, right? He was a man of war and described as a man “after God’s heart!” David got his hands plenty bloody.
These men can protect and defend. They are called to do so. The Apostle Paul used two military metaphors in Col 2:5. ESV
“For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ”
According to my study notes below the text, it says ” the Greek words for good order and firmness mean we should be like troops drawn up in battle formation, standing firm like soldiers resisting the enemy.”
This is us.
