A very wise writer asked his audience recently this question that hit me straight between the eyes.
“When are you unavailable?”
As someone who is on call 24/7 for texts or emergencies it’s a hard question. I’m not part of a group practice where that may be shared. But the writer, Allen Arnold, shared some bits of wisdom which I have employed but need to put into daily practice now.
He suggested to have daily times where your cell & other communication devices are “OFF” or at least put on silent and in another room. If your time is early morning, which it probably will be for me but now on a consistent basis, it’s a less likely time someone will need to contact you. So I will begin this and if the morning gets messed up I will look at my calendar for the day & pick another slot.
I must be honest. There are many times I could have made myself unavailable but chose to look at my cell or computer. This must now be an intentional daily move on my part to make this work.
Look at your life. You may love social media and sharing and all that stuff and there’s nothing wrong with that, if you have times you too are unavailable to the world and available to God. It is necessary for your creative process to arise from within because each one of you is a Son of God and has unique abilities, talents and gifts He wants to bring out to those around you.
God desires this to emerge from all of us!!
Shalom Shalom!
